For the fifth consecutive year, Performance Boat Center is hosting the Cigarette Rendezvous at its facility, and as owners make their pilgrimage to Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks, PBC co-owner Brett Manire is predicting the usual record-setting attendance. “I think we’re going to break my goal of a hundred,” he told Powerboat Nation. “We had around 85 last year, so we’ll have more this year. We’re also going with the same format as last year, so most of the participants will already have an understanding of what we’re doing and what’s going on.”

As of Wednesday, numerous Cigarettes and their owners were starting to arrive at LOTO for the festivities, although Thursday will be when the action really starts to rev up, with an informal meet-and-greet at the Redhead Lakeside Grill’s fabled Tiki Bar during the evening. Friday morning kicks off with a jaunt to Coconuts Caribbean Beach Bar & Grill for a lunch and pool party. Later that afternoon, it’s off to Franky & Louie’s Beachfront Bar & Grill in Sunrise Beach, MO, followed by a return to the Redhead pool deck for a pizza party and bikini show.

Saturday’s events include a run up the west side of the lake to the infamous Big Dick’s Halfway Inn for a catered barbecue lunch and music by a live band; a raft-up will follow at Linn Creek Cove. Saturday’s events culminate at the PBC Showroom with a dinner and awards banquet, followed by a fireworks display and more live music.

On Sunday, a “rehab party” has been planned at Backwater Jack’s Restaurant. “After that, we’ll be loading a lot of boats up, and everybody can head home,” Manire says.

Cigarette Rendezvous is definitely the place to be if you want to see the full range of Cigarettes through the years. The event attracts everything from Rough Riders, Top Guns and Tigers to Cafe Racers, Flat Decks and GTS Center Consoles. About 30 percent of Cigarette owners tend to be newcomers to the event. “This has become our signature event, and we very much look forward to hosting and putting it on for everybody,” Manire says.

Between selling, rigging, delivering and maintaining their various boat retail lines (Cigarette, MTI, Sunsation, Wright Performance), Performance Boat Center is working overtime on numerous events and races all over the country. PBC’s Rusty Williams is driving the Performance Boat Center/Auto Alert competitor with Myrick Coil on the OPA circuit this year, and will be heading off to run in the Texas Outlaw Challenge June 19-23. In addition, the team will be present at the Powerboating for a Cure Poker Run June 28-29 in Norfolk, VA; then Williams and Coil head to Sarasota for their next offshore race July 5-7. “Trucks are not even getting cooled off, we’re running them so hard,” Manire says.

When you combine the premier service center, product offerings and customer loyalty of Performance Boat Center with the legendary brand of Cigarette boats, you have a pretty much guaranteed recipe for success. So it was nice to see that both went above and beyond the call of duty to create a quality, memorable event:

It was a prolific weekend for boaters, with some racking up the MPH at the Texas Outlaw Challenge while others had a more leisurely affair at the Lake Cumberland Thunder Run. But those who have experienced the Cigarette brand before are generally customers for life, so it’s unsurprising that they had an enclave loyal and large enough to warrant its own event.

Over 55 Cigarettes, new and old were spotted on the relaxed waters of the Lake of the Ozarks. We doubt you’ll find a higher concentration anywhere else, with a camaraderie and shared love for their passion to match.

We knew things would go off without a hitch with Performance Boat Center (PBC) involved. Today when we talked to Cigarette owner Skip Braver he could not stop throwing accolades and compliments PBC’s way. Extra thanks were heaped on owners Brett Manire and Mark Waddington, names well known to customers in the area. “This was the most incredible run I have ever been to. We had happy Cigarette owners everywhere. The egos were left on the dock,” said Skip. He praised the family style fun run and added, “I can’t give Performance Boat enter enough credit or accolades for how well they performed.”

PBC Owner Brett Manire was equally enthusiastic. “A great time was had by all,” he exclaimed before summarizing with “minimum anxiety, maximum fun,” a maxim that seems to fit Performance Boat Center‘s customer satisfaction as well. He noted that one Cigarette owner hauled his boat over 14 hours to make it out, and expressed the honor of hosting such an iconic run.

As for next year? Brett definitely hopes for a similar repeat in success, and hopefully with less schedule conflicts permitting. If all goes to plan look out for a 2001 Red & White Cigarette Top Gun with a Powerboat Nation logo emblazoned on the bow. We don’t just praise them for no reason; we live the Cigarette difference and know exactly what it means to say “I own a Cigarette” – clearly so did all at this unique community event. Looking forward to more! Photos below.

The Cigarette Rendezvous, hosted by the Performance Boat Center at the Lake of the Ozarks, outdid itself again this year with another record breaking attendance, cementing it’s reputation as the largest gathering of cigarette boats and owners in the entire world.

According to Brett Manire of Performance Boat Center, there were 78 total boats registered, but with the a few extra boats that were registered he estimates the tally to be at or over 80 boats. Skip Braver and Bud Lorow from CIGARETTE RACING TEAM were on hand at the event and could not have been more pleased. Skip said the rendezvous was epic and was thrilled to be able to be on hand to support all of the loyal CIGARETTE owners. Bud was also very impressed by how well some of the older boats were maintained and how much pride and care the owners took in keeping the boats in such good condition.

Cigarette models from the 80’s to the present made it an extremely great opportunity to see the evolution of the iconic brand over from the years. 31 bullets to brand new boats with turbo power and center consoles really showed off the significance of the Cigarette brand.

Above all was the camaraderie and loyalty the Cigarette brand brings. Boats came in from all over the country and the Cigarette bond was clearly evident through the friendliness of all the boaters that made the entire event so much better.

Of course, with the incredible planning and execution by the organizers at Performance Boat Center, the run went off without a single hitch or accident. The food was great and the service and logistics provided by Performance Boat Center were unparalleled. We look forward to seeing what’s in store for next year!

Last years event brought huge praise from Cigarette Racing Team Owner Skip Braver. There were over 55 Cigarettes in attendance and this year is sure to be bigger.

Skip and Bud from CIGARETTE will be coming up from Miami to support the event and we all look forward to seeing another gathering of Cigarette owners converge to celebrate life on the water, Fathers Day, and experience the Cigarette Difference!

Just today Skip told us he was blown away by last years rendezvous and praised the professionalism of the event and how great it was to see so many Cigarettes together old to new small to big.

I have said it time and time again. If you want to go to a place and find the highest concentration of CIGARETTE Branded boats on the water, then the Lake of the Ozarks is the place to go. My unofficial and unscientific observations show way more CIGARETTES than anywhere else in the world.

With the Performance Boat Center as a CIGARETTE dealer it is really not a surprise the 2015 CIGARETTE Owners Rendezvous is coming to the Lake June 19-21. The Performance Boat Center is an incredible facility with everything you could ask for, from basic service and repair to full restorations, all done in house.

Brett Manire of the Performance Boat Center is hoping very optimistically their new restaurant will be open and told us that Performance Boat Center is the perfect place to host this event.

If you want to play, you better hurry up and register. The rendezvous is exclusive to only to Cigarette owners and they have limited the participation to 60 boat entries.

Gary Seeds from Cincinnati Ohio has been boating for a long, long time and like most of us crazy boat owners the thought and dream of upgrading to a new boat is a never ending progression.

It was 2010 while on a Florida PowerBoat Club Poker Run, running in another brand of boat when he mentioned to his wife, if they continued to do these events another boat would be in order to tackle the bigger water for a more comfortable and better performing ride. Ask and you shall receive because immediately after a 39 CIGARETTE with Mercury Racing 700’s was the Seed’s new ride and it came with “Full Wife Approval!” The 39 proved to be such a great ride that the progression to another boat could only be another CIGARETTE!

Just this last weekend Gary took delivery of his brand new CIGARETTE 42X with Mercury Racing Qc4v 1100 Twin Turbo Engines. Gary could not be happier with the boat and with the boat company.
“The entire CIGARETTE EXPERIENCE is incredible” said Gary in a phone interview. “Working with Bud Lorow and the entire Team at Cigarette made the boat buying experience very enjoyable” Gary went on to talk about the design phase and painter. David Hunter is awesome to work with. He listens, understands the customers design ideas and applies all of it into the boat. The design studio allows you to really spec the boat the way you want it.”

Out of the box the boat ran 117 and with a little more prop an easy 120+ is very attainable. Look for Gary to be at the Pirates of Lanier Run and other events across the country all summer long! A great build for a proud new owner. From concept to delivery 7 Months. This process is a progression and the outcome brings an enthusiastic owner who knows and understands the CIGARETTE DIFFERENCE. Congratulations to The Seeds Family and to CIGARETTE RACING for another incredible build!

CIGARETTE apparel has long been a huge part of ownership and want of ownership. The CIGARETTE Brand goes well beyond the boat and it could be said the brand can stand on its This year at the Miami Boat Show Cigarette introduced bunch of new items for both men and women.

Many of these new pieces are only available at the show at least for now. If you are in Miami for the show then the CIGARETTE booth to buy some new threads is the place to be. If you cant be here then reach out to someone who is and give them a mission. Last minute Valentine Gifts for all of us who tend to put boats a little higher on the list than other things have an option at the show. Lets hope at least for my sake it will work!

Stu Jones in his Project 1080 38' Cigarette.

Florida Powerboat Club‘s premier event, the Key West Poker Run, will kick off on Wednesday with the first of two departure days from Miami to Key West, according to the group’s leader, Stu Jones. The event encompasses six days of fun, sun and speed.

Jones told Powerboat Nation that about 70 teams are expected to run on Wednesday, with an additional 195 teams enjoying the adventure for the Thursday run. “These numbers are epic in proportion to previous years for this 27-year event, and we are very thankful to all the FPC members and our featured sponsors, who continue to support this event every year,” Jones said.

He added that the strong economy, coupled with the general growth in the performance boating sectors, has caused the popularity of poker runs to grow exponentially. “People are finally starting to get it—that poker runs are fun, full of adventure and camaraderie, and there’s no better way to enjoy the powerboating lifestyle than to do poker runs,” he said. “The Key West Poker Run, beyond any other experience, captures that true spirit of performance boating. It’s a great platform to see the Florida Keys and really enjoy a few bursts of adrenaline. You get to meet people from all around the world and watch the powerboat races all in one bang-up weekend.”

One major challenge of FPC’s growth is dealing with the huge amount of participants. For example: What venue can serve so many people lunch at one go? “We’re happy to report that we figured out the solution,” Jones said. “With so many boats on the Thursday run, it just amounted to finding good lunch stops for some of the larger manufacturers. So what we’ve done is, the Nor-Tech owners will have lunch at Sundowners in Key Largo. Meanwhile, Cigarette owners will have lunch at the Playa Largo Resort in Key Largo. And the majority of MTI owners have decided that the Faro Blanco Resort would be their chosen lunch stop. That represents more than 100 boats that have selected to go to those three locations, and takes care of half of the fleet right there.”

In other venue news, Jones said that the popular Gilbert’s Resort in Key Largo have had their docks redone and are capable of accommodating larger groups, especially in conjunction with using the docks from the Anchorage resort next door. “There’s a few hundred feet of docks across the canal between those two locations, and they can accommodate at least 80 boats,” Jones said. “That’s going to take care of the bulk of our lunch needs going down on Thursday.”

Well-planned safety management is paramount to the success of any large-scale poker run event, and FPC will has recruited all of the major law-enforcement agencies to patrol and support this effort, including USCG, Florida FWC, City of Miami, Miami Beach and Bal Harbour marine patrols to join in this effort. Once again, Miami Dade Fire Rescue will have a strong presence on the course, with their Fireboat Fleet, along with MDFR rescue teams on board volunteer boats. Jones extends his thanks to Team SeaKeeper, which will be joining the Safety Management effort, by volunteering the SeaKeeper Boston Whaler to transport a rescue team for the Wednesday Run.

With a record number of 265 registered teams, and all the leading manufacturers on board to support this event, Jones asks the general boating public and non-participant boaters, to please understand that FPC has reserved “special event” docking at all of the major waterfront restaurants in Key Largo and Marathon, and we will be posting signage at those locations. “We need these facilities to support our poker run logistics during peak times of noon to 2:30 p.m. at these key locations, and ask for your cooperation as we move this massive fleet from Miami to Key West,” Jones said.

Our entire world of Performance Powerboating requires a ton of commitment that usually goes way beyond reward and those who commit the most deserve the credit.  The entire Team at Performance Boat Center and the Red Head Yacht Club certainly stood up for everyone at this year’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout!

First they welcomed numerous boat owners, race teams, fans, and media types to make their home our home,  graciously accommodating every request.  The service department ran nonstop to make small last minute repairs, service work, and some major repairs to attendees boats.  They did all of this without whimper or complaints and met each challenge with enthusiasm and pride.  One Miami based team commented to me that not only was the facility at Performance Boat Center the best they had ever seen, but more importantly the team who worked there were fantastic.  They said they would do the job, said when it would be done, and then delivered beyond expectations.  This “out of town” team from Miami raved about “Nowhere else had they ever been to get this kind of service”.

Then, Performance Boat Center throws a welcome party…..I don’t know maybe a 1000 or so people converged on the place, free food, free bars, and a wide open house to see some of the baddest offshore hardware you could ever see from anywhere in the world in one place.  A live band, a charity auction, and a great crowd who really appreciated everything.  If you didn’t want to wait in the free food line, the service, food, and atmosphere at the Red Head Yacht Club was stellar.  We ducked away to grab a proper meal for dinner and it was fantastic.  Such a great place and if you are a powerboat fan then it is the place to go.

As far as boat sales go Performance Boat Center is the place.  They are dealers for CIGARETTE, SKATER, SUNSATION, Outerlimits, Statement, and PRINCESS YACHTS.  PBC is also one of the few dealers who stock new boats for sale.  On the floor are brand new CIGARETTES and SUNSATIONS ready for new owners.  This level of commitment goes beyond parallel  Cigarette Racing Team Owner, Skip Braver couldn’t say enough about his LOTO dealer.  “Brett and Mark have done such a great job, building a fantastic dealership and marina.  They represent the CIGARETTE brand incredibly well and we are proud to have them.”  PBC also recently hosted the CIGARETTE Owners rendezvous which we reported on HERE:

Of course we are not done.  Performance Boat Center was also the title Sponsor/host of the entire LOTO Shootout and directly sponsored or owned boats that ran in the shootout!

I am personally grateful to PBC for hosing my session of the Performance Boat School for a brand new 48 MTI Owner!

Bravo Zulu! to everyone at PBC

This coming weekend there are a bunch of boating events taking place.  While many of us will be at the Texas Outlaw Challenge, there is a lot of boating activity taking place elsewhere around the country.

The Cigarette Owners Rendezvous will be taking place at the Lake of the Ozarks hosted by Performance Boat Center. The Cigarette Rendezvous is sure to be a huge success with so many Cigarettes on the lake and they could not have a better facility or hosts than the team at Performance Boat Center.

At Lake Cumberland, the Cumberland Thunder Run kicks off another super cool event that brings a bunch a boats from the local area.  Powerboat Nation apparel provider Justin Lucas of Go-Fast Threads is one of the tireless enthusiasts who puts on this event every year and is dedicated to making sure everyone has a fun and safe weekend.

With all this going on we may be missing even more.  The entire team at Powerboat Nation only wishes we could attend each of these but we know we will have great representation from all or our powerboating fans and enthusiasts at each one! Let us know where you’ll be headed and say hello if you see us!
