The Pirates of Lanier Poker Run has always been a great event with wonderful diversity of activities attracting a wide variety of boaters.  Hosted from a first class resort Pirates of Lanier brings out the very best from everyone. This year may just be a record breaking fundraising year.

Powerboat Nation offers a special thank you to the entire Board from Lanier Partners and all the supporters and volunteers who work so hard to make this incredible boating event happen every year!

We hope you enjoy our video!

A record number of boats turned up for the 2016 Pirates of Lanier Charity Poker Run. The start of the Poker Run was modified following the tragedy of the day before, but the spirit of giving continued as usual. A record number of boats and huge contributions all went to the benefit of the supported organizations .

Pirates of Lanier is an incredible event, hosted by a great board of organizers who are truly dedicated to being great hosts. But the top priority is to raise money for those in need in the surrounding areas.

Powerboat Nation again had the privilege of being invited to cover the event and participate in the great powerboating camaraderie and spirit of giving.

The final night at Pirates of Lanier Charity Poker Run can go long.  The reason it goes long is because of the huge generosity of the participants who have the need to give.   For the past four years Jarrett Gorlin has stood at the final table until he has won the top prize only to give it all back to support the charities.

This year Michael Pierce, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, hit the final table hard and was able to draw a Royal Flush well before Jarrett.  Most of us, myself include left to know Michael had won and all was well with the world. But Hell No! Jarrett was having none of it and despite drawing longer into the night and digging even deeper into his pockets for yet another $1000 after another $1000, even having Michael draw cards for him as he continued to give. Jarrett would not leave until he prevailed and prevail he did as he was able to draw a matching royal flush. Now it was down to the wire and the chance draw of one card per player with the high card winning. Michael’s 9 of Hearts just couldn’t beat the King of Diamonds pulled by Jarrett’s proxy, the man with the winning touch, Dylan Floyd who is also the head of the Sigma Nu Fraternity at Georgia Tech who led 28 other Fraternity Brothers as volunteers at the event. Dylan has been the lucky hand, pulling cards for Jarrett for at least the past two years of his winning streak!

Congratulations to all and a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to raise so much money for the event. The final amount raised is expected to be revealed soon right here on PowerboatNation.com!

Complete details are not available at this time but PowerBoat Nation is live at Lake Lanier and we can confirm a catamaran belonging to Art McMahan was reported overturned.  The initial reports are that 4 or 5 occupants  were onboard and two bodies have been recovered.  The Fire Dive Rescue Team is on scene working the incident.  We will provide updates as accurate information becomes available.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends. More details will be posted as they become available.

Pirates of Lanier continues to be one of the very best powerboating events in the country and it is certainly brings the most amount of money to charity than any other.  As usual the Powerboat Nation team had a great time and we were privileged and happy to see so many of our friends and supporters on this run!  All of us at PBN appreciate all the support and hope you like our quick video review of the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run!

Once again, the scallywags of Lanier Partners have put on a stellar charity event. The Pirates of Lanier Poker Run kicked off on the “high seas” of Lake Lanier, with ~300 boats piling onto the water to enjoy the stunning weather and scenery. Powerboat Nation was on hand to support, and of course, enjoy the event:

Host John Woodruff yet again made everyone feel welcome and threw an all around amazing, fun, and noble event. While we are still waiting on the final numbers for the total raised at the event, we know that it will be a large number for the event’s charities. Local charities Camp Sunshine, Camp Twin Lakes and the Boys & Girls Club of Hall County will be the beneficiaries and they have you loyal powerboaters to thank.

Many familiar faces and boats were present, along with a whole gang of new oddballs and oddities on hand to have fun and support a great cause.

We were thrilled to be able to participate and look forward to next year. A special thanks to our PBN support team: J.W. Davis of davis4x4.com, Shane McFall, Jeff McFall, and of course Miss PBN’s Brittany!

We will have an update as soon as the numbers come in from our powerboating extraordinaire, helicopter ace pilot Mr. John Woodruff.
