KEY WEST: Marker 17 Marine Clinches Superboat Vee World Championship

It was the second heartbreaker of the day.

Having won Superboat Vee class on both Wednesday and Friday, LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness—a 30’ Extreme owned and driven by Brit Lily and throttled by Kevin Smith—was sitting pretty to win the Key West World Championhips. But during a fifth-place position, the boat did a hard 180 spin on Turn 3, relinquishing any hope of defending the team’s defending World Championship.

Marker 17 Marine, a 29’ Outerlimits owned and driven by Brian Forehand and throttled by Vinnie Diorio, are the year’s unofficial World Champion. (The boat is the old Snowy Mountain Brewery competitor.)

Punisher actually led for most of the race, but slowed down for reasons that were not immediately clear, clearing the way for Marker 7 Marine’s win.
