Nordic Tooling New 35 Tunnel Catamaran

Nordic Boats of Lake Havasu City, AZ, has revealed that it is in the process of producing a new tunnel catamaran between 34 and 35 feet. The boat, designed by Thane Tiemer, will be a full carbon Kevlar layup with a bustle on the back and will typically be powered by twin outboards. Nordic’s team has been working around the clock to have the boat ready for the Los Angeles Boat Show (January 10-13, 2019 at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA). The deck has just come out of the mold, and is being laminated to the hull this week.

“The boat will probably be called the 35 Long Deck,” Tiemer said. “It’s a beautiful piece that has nice, wide sponsons.” While the first out of the mold will be powered by twin outboards, the boat can be fitted with up to quad outboards, he said.

Tiemer compared the boat’s bottom to Nordic’s 28SS, whose bottom he also tooled. “The 28SS is the fastest single-outboard and the fastest twin-outboard cat in North America,” he said. “No one’s beaten that thing yet. I just kind of took what I did on there and made it bigger. Since it’s not powered by a single outboard, I didn’t need a center pod in the middle. This will be a true offshore boat—this isn’t limited to just the lake.”
