Donzi, Parties Of Two

Try to wrap your head around this: Named for founder Don Aronow, Donzi Marine sprang brand to life in 1964. That means makes the once-coveted—and still-coveted among the Donzi faithful—brand is 61 years old.

The company is now the property of Iconic Marine Group and, according to several sources, a comeback is in the offing. That’s great news for Donzi fans and Iconic Marine, which also owns Fountain, Baja and the Big Thunder Marine dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks.

In terms of new-model releases, Donzi currently is dormant. That’s plain truth, neither good nor bad, just a fair and accurate assessment.

But when it comes to the passion of the Donzi faithful, the brand will never die. For them, whether they own 22 Classic or 38 ZRC, Donzi always will be the coolest powerboat brand on the planet. Don’t even try to argue with them.

Forget the Donzi “mystique”—that’s just 25-cent-word marketing-babble. The boats are sexy across the entire line. They look hot. They look fast. It’s that simple.

And for those qualities they remain undeniably popular, as witnessed by two upcoming Donzi events in as many weeks.

Set for this weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks, Big Thunder Marine’s Baja, Donzi and Fountain Fun Run will celebrate its eighth year on the popular Missouri waterway. The fun starts tonight with a registration party and dinner at Big Thunder Marine’s Speed And Luxury Showroom, and the organizers are expecting 60 to 100 boats to turn out for the triple-brand affair.

OK, Fountain and Baja also will get some love this weekend. So what? There’s more than enough to go around.

Next week, the Donzi party moves to St. Clair, Mich., where the Lake St. Clair Donzi Club will host its fourth annual fun-run event. A Donzi-exclusive happening, the three-day event should attract a healthy fleet of Donzi owners and their rides from Michigan and beyond.

Two celebrations of a 61-year-old brand in two weekends, and there are others around the country, speaks volumes about Donzi’s timeless appeal But please, don’t call it “mystique.”

Sexy, hot and fast will do just fine.
