Though the Speed On The Water Year In Review print magazine is on pause this year, that decision wasn’t made until after the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in late August. The traditional speedonthewater.com photo shoot on the Central Missouri waterway, which helped feed the annual print publication, went ahead as planned with speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden and helicopter pilot Tom Cline doing their usual bang-up job.
The shoot was particularly engaging for Boden as it included three Skater catamarans. Though Boden doesn’t own a Skater, he’s every bit a Skater man. He believes in the brand and the man—the one and only Peter Hledin—behind it.
We had intended to use the Skater 438 owned by Dennis Phillips in the fold-out section of the scrubbed 2025 Year In Review issue. So Boden captured a whole mess of detail images. We plan to showcase those in a complete feature on the build in December.
As for the other two Skater cats Boden captured that day, both were 388 models. One belongs to Tyler and Lindsey Miller of M CON Racing fame. The other is the property of Kevin Birrell. Both 38-footers also will be featured in upcoming build-stories on speedonthewater.com.
Of course, the Lake of the Ozarks photo session was far from Boden’s first Skater shoot. Far from it—no one alive has captured more high-quality images of Hledin’s remarkable creations than Boden. But it was his first encounter with the Skater trio.
“That made it particularly spectacular,” he said.
As are the images Boden brought back from the shoot.
