Making a big-move this year during the Miami International Boat Show, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats will have an open-cockpit, eight-seat stern-drive engine-powered SC 46 catamaran at Grove Harbour in Coconut Grove February 11-13 during the Miami International Boat Show. Like all boats in the Mercury Racing-organized demo event, test-rides will be offered by appointment only.
To borrow from current popular understatement, it’s been a minute since the Bristol, R.I., company has brought a stern-drive machine to the Miami affair. Its outboard engine-powered SC 37 has made the Grove Harbour scene a couple of times, but the last time Outerlimits Offshore Powerboat brought a stern-drive catamaran to the Miami event was in 2020 when the event at Miami Marine Stadium on Virginia Key.

Powered by Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines and dubbed Hurry Up by then-owners Jason and Laurie Moe, that boat was also was an SC 46—but of the six-seat canopied kind.
The year before, the builder unveiled another canopied 46-footer called Jet and owned by Burton and Yvette Kirsten during the event.
Still receiving its final touches at Outerlimits headquarters, the newest SC 46 is equipped with Mercury Racing 1350/1100 engines and owned by Donnie and Cara McLeod of Indiana. It is the sister-ship of yet another 46-footer owned by Missouri’s Shelby Smith and powered by Mercury Racing 1550/1350 beasts.
“The SC 46 we’re completing for the show will be the only stern-drive catamaran in the Grove Harbour demo fleet,” said Dan Kleitz, the general manager of Outerlimits. “I think it might be the only big-power cat at the Miami show next week. I’m excited for people to see and experience it.
“We’ve showcased our SC 37 outboard cat before in Grove Harbour, and the people who made appointments for demos loved it,” he continued. “But we’re really excited to bring a big-power, stern-drive catamaran to Grove. Stern-drive V-bottoms and catamarans are part of our heritage, and we want people to know that we are still building them and proud of it.”
Kleitz said he is expecting demo-appointments to fill quickly for the three-day happening, but added that slots are still available. He can be reached at 860-729-7304.
