East and West, April is starting off with a bang this weekend when it comes to significant go-fast pleasure-boating event. And there’s even something for offshore racers and fans of the sport.
Starting Thursday, the fourth annual Super Cat Fest affairs takes over Havasu Riviera Marina in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Chief organizer of Dave Johnson of RiverDavesPlace.com fame is promising his biggest and best happening to date, and based his event’s past performance there’s no reason to doubt him. The irrepressible Lake Havasu City local could run for mayor, for heaven’s sake.
Which, in fact, he is.

A mere 2,300-ish miles east and a touch south, the Florida Powerboat Club’s Tampa Bay Powerboat Week starts Friday. A member favorite, the Tampa Bay event is approaching capacity and club president Stu Jones is poised to deliver an outstanding experience.
“The Tampa Bay format is so easy and manageable,” he said.
After a successful season-opener last month in St. Petersburg, Fla., offshore powerboat racing returns to New Orleans for the second year in a row with the International Hot Rod Association New Orleans Grand Prix. But where last year’s races attracted a scant 20-something teams, the IHRA affair already has 30 teams signed up and most likely will double that number.
East, West, South—there’s something for everyone this weekend in the go-fast boating world. April is off to a ripping good start.
