Long before Tyler Miller became a rock-star in the offshore powerboat racing world, long before he earned two world and four consecutive national championships in Super Cat class, he was just another competitor eager to make a mark in one of the sport’s most competitive categories. The Kansas-based excavation/earth-moving company owner and his cousin, Brett, had no idea what they getting into when they joined the Super Cat ranks in 2017.
They just knew it looked fun and they wanted to compete. And not surprisingly to anyone familiar with the sport, their first few seasons most often found them near the back of the Super Cat pack.

Times have changed. With a little help from the Powerboat P1 group, Miller and company picked up sponsorship from Monster Energy in late 2022. The news was announced during the Thursday Speed On The Water Key West Bash benefitting Samuel’s House that year. Miller already had a new Class 1 catamaran under construction at Skater Powerboats in Douglas, Mich., and the 43-footer was done in time—but not by much—for the start of the 2023 season.
Despite Miller’s investment and the team’s complete commitment, Class 1 success was not immediate. Mechanical issues dogged them throughout the year. There was no shortage of frustration in the Monster Energy/M CON Offshore Racing camp.

Miller and Coil also will campaign the team’s new Class 2 raceboat in Key West.
But success did arrive the following season when Miller and teammate Myrick Coil earned the Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship.
Now Miller, Coil and the rest of Monster Energy/M CON Offshore Racing team are gearing up the upcoming Race World Offshore Key West World Championships. It will be Key West Worlds No. 11 for Miller, and he and Coil will attack them in a new 41-foot Skater catamaran they debuted this season. They’ll also be competing in Class 2 ranks in a 39-foot MTI catamaran the team unveiled this season.
Having concurrently campaigned boats in the Super Cat and Class 1 ranks, Miller is no stranger to pulling double-duty. And after what has been a full-season of drama on the organizational side of the sport, he’s eager to get back in the cockpit and finish strong in both categories.
“The crew has the boats dialed in and ready for battle,” he explained via text message this afternoon. “The approach is consistency—you have to be competitive Wednesday and Friday but most notably be there on Sunday to come away a champion
“Momentum is definitely something that is earned in Key West,” he added. “Maintaining it for six grueling days takes a lot of leadership, poise and determination, all of which Team M CON has.”
Miller knows success in each class won’t come easily. But he’s just as eager to get started on the path to success—and maybe a world title or two—as he was when he and his cousin shared the cockpit in Key West for the first time.
“I’m looking forward to buttoning chinstraps, putting in mouth pieces and going to battle for a world championship,” he concluded. “There’s nothing better in all of motorsports.”
