Thanks to happenings in Southwest Florida and Arizona, last weekend was a record-setter in the go-fast boating realm. The numbers don’t lie.
The inaugural Fort Myers Offshore Marina Cantina Fun Run in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., attracted 67 registered entries and more 400 participants. And that wasn’t just a record for a first-time Fort Myers Offshore event. Though no hard records are kept on such things, it likely was an all-time record for a go-fast boating event in January.

If another January boating event has ever boasted such an impressive turnout, it doesn’t spring to mind. The Concept Boats-backed affair erased any doubt that—come winter time—Southwest Florida is the epicenter of the go-fast boating universe.
Performance Boat Center co-owner Brett Manire and his Missouri-based crew even came to check it out and join in the fun.
Though the grand opening of an ultra-custom boat-builder’s new facility doesn’t fall into the same category as an on-water event, the turnout for last Saturday’s DCB Performance Marine affair in Phoenix was equally impressive. The DCB celebration was the ultra-custom high-performance catamaran builder’s second such event in less than three years, and yet it still attracted more than 500 guests.
Thanks to that pesky season called winter, January is supposed to be the deadest month of the go-fast boating year. But thanks to Fort Myers Offshore and DCB, it’s been anything but. The numbers tell the story, and once again they don’t lie.
