Former Sunsation Sportboat Owner Resets The Hook With CCX Center Console

Though Donovan Dungan has been boating for much of his life, his last performance-boat was a Sunsation 288 sportboat with a Mercury Racing stern-drive engine. The owner of Poseidon Homes, the Cape Coral, Fla., resident eventually sold the popular 28-footer and replaced it with a 35-foot Pro-Line center-console.

But the Sunsation-brand and performance-boating bugs never left him. One demo-ride last month in a still-new 2024 model-year 32 CCX center console powered by twin Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines courtesy of WMF Watercraft and Marine last month during the Fort Myers Boat Show was all it took to reset the hook.

“Everything from the 288 came rushing back during that demo ride on Caloosahatchee River,” he explained. “The demo-driver said, ‘Get ready, it comes out of the hole really fast,’ and it did. Everything clicked from that.

With their Sunsation 32 CCX center console, Donovan and Kelly Dungan have come full-circle with the Algonac, Mich., performance-boat brand.

“Good news, bad news, I had a warranty issue with the 288,” he continued. “The way Sunsation treated me made me a fan for life.”

Now Dungan is back in the Sunsation family—a family WMF joined through its association Performance Boat Center and the multi-brand dealership’s new “Powered By Performance “ program. WMF is owned by Bill Forenski. In fact, his son, William, took Dungan on the 32 CCX demo ride.

“Donovan is such a great guy—he was a pleasure to work with,” Forenski said. “And I’m really enjoying our new relationship with Performance Boat Center.”

Added Performance Boat Center co-owner Brett Manire, “Bill and I have really hit it off. We talk every day, sometimes hourly and he’s easy to work with.

“And now Performance Boat Center has a presence in Southwest Florida,” he added.

Dungan and his wife, Kelly, are Fort Myers Offshore members, and Poseidon Homes is a corporate member of nonprofit scholarship fundraising outfit. Though they miss will the club’s Holiday Fun Run set for Saturday, December 27, as they’ll be traveling, they plan to participants in the club’s January event and more.

“One of the other things I love about the boat is its top,” Dungan said. “I am big fan of the Batman series, and it has that look.”
