Fort Myers Offshore Members Gobbling Up The Turkey Run

No doubt about it, even the most loyal readers are groaning at the above headline. But much to the horror of my 32-year-old son and 27-year-old daughter, I never miss a chance to use a painful pun or a good dad-joke.

True story? I sent my daughter to her fifth-grade talent-show armed with pun-laced dad-jokes. She didn’t speak to me again for a couple of weeks. Such are the pains of having a daily writer for a father.

But the headline above was irresistible, and not just because I’m a hack. Fort Myers Offshore already has 60 boats registered for this Friday’s Turkey Run. Registration opened just six days ago and nonprofit scholarship fundraising club’s annual post-Thanksgiving affair already has 60 members signed up for the event.

The Fort Myers Offshore affair has already surpassed its 50-something-boat record for the lunch run. Registration is still open and a healthy contingent of club-members are well-known for signing up at the last minute. The fleet is guaranteed to grow larger.

“We’re not going to cap it,” said Cyndee Hill, a Fort Myers Offshore board-member and the wife of club president Tim Hill.

The Naples Hyatt House will once again host the annual happening, and the venue’s dock space hasn’t exactly expanded at a rapid pace. But when it comes to rafting up and making use of every available inch for boats from 20-something to 50-plus feet, Fort Myers Offshore members are masters.

Strike that. They are magicians. Like a Thanksgiving-day turkey, the Hyatt House docks will be stuffed.

OK. You can groan again.
