KEY WEST: LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness Wins Wednesday Race #2

Defending World Champion LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness, owned and driven by Brit Lilly and throttled by Kevin Smith, won in Friday's Superboat Vee battle.

Defending World Champion LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness, owned and driven by Brit Lilly and throttled by Kevin Smith, won the second of four races today as nine Superboat Vee boats—all running naturally aspirated carbureted motors—battled during the 38th annual Key West World Championships.

Lilly and Smith quickly grabbed the lead away from early front-runner Boatfloater.com, which appeared to spin out and miss a buoy at the start of the race.

Sunprint Management, a 29’ Extreme driven by Steve Fehrmann and throttled by Steve Miklos, stayed in second place for most of the race, while Marker 17 Marine, a 29’ Outerlimits owned and driven by Brian Forehand and throttled by Vinnie Diorio, were a solid third-place finisher. BoatFloater.com, the 29’ Extreme piloted by the father/son team of Steve and Stephen Kildahl of Sarasota, FL, finished in fourth.

Wix Filters/The Developer, a 42’ Fountain driven by Scott Brown and throttled by Ed Tamberino, were running unopposed in the class, but suffered a mechanical breakdown early in the race.

Next up: Superboat class will command the third of four races for Wednesday.
