Note to Swift And Co. Realty, the publisher of the annual Get Down Guide at the Lake of the Ozarks:
The Seventies called. They want their party-expression back.
But beyond that just-for-fun, snarky jab, the Get Down Guide is another strong example of a printed piece that makes great sense because it meets a demand for solid information. The comprehensive publication is a season-long guide to the music/nightlife scene at the Central Missouri waterway.

From the stage at Shady Gators to that of Ozarks Amphitheater in Camdenton, the area is loaded with live music, pool parties and much more all summer. Even for locals, keeping track is a chore.
Supported entirely by advertising, the Get Down Guide is free to would-be beneficiaries of the information it provides. You can pick it at supporting businesses throughout the area such as Margaritaville Resort, the 1932 Reserve, the Tap + Grill, Lake Burger and other establishments that support the publication through advertising.
But while the publication can help you plan, the publishers wisely realized it can’t help you remember. Folks on “lake time” have enough trouble recalling where they put their sunglasses, much less who’s playing where and when on any given evening.
So at the beginning of each month, they send an email blast highlighting the events of that month.
One quick look, for example, let’s you know that you need to drop into Dog Days this weekend for the Canine Cannonball Contest—it’s a blast, by the way. Barenaked Ladies fans will want to save Friday evening, June 13, for Canadian band’s concert at Ozarks Amphitheater.
You get the idea. The point is that publishers are combining comprehensive season-long print piece with a monthly digital guide. One enables you to plan. The other reminds you of what you have planned.
Because when you’re on lake time, you need both.
