Manatee Marine Offering Canopied 38-Foot Valor Cat

Though open-cockpit models dominate the high-performance pleasure-catamaran market, several noteworthy builders also offer canopied versions for buyers who prefer them. Canopied boats are standard, of course, in offshore racing’s spec classes. And as a throttleman in two of those categories— Factory Stock and Super Stock—Julian Maldonado is more than familiar with having a roof over his head.

So it makes sense that Manatee Marine Unlimited, the Palmetto, Fla., business Maldonado co-owns with Sara Langheim, is now offering a canopied version of the 38 Valor catamaran.

The first model should be on the water in late December or early January.

Twin Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines will power the eight-seat, all-carbon-fiber 38-footer.

“We are expecting speeds over 130 mph while delivering the comfort and technology of a full-canopy boat,” Maldonado said. “The 38 comes one way—fully loaded—with a full air-conditioned cockpit, premium sound system, lighting packages and the latest technology. Additional seating layouts also are available.

“It’s going to redefine its class,” he added.

According to Maldonado, Manatee Marine has two orders for the boat, dubbed the Valor 38 Canopy. He plans to test the first complete build in either late December or early January.

For buyers who still crave an open-cockpit feel from time to time, the boat will be built with two large and removable canopy hatches.

“You can remove them ‘on the fly’—so to speak—for an open-top experience and reinstall them in minutes when the weather changes or you want to enjoy the air-conditioning,” Maldonado explained. “When the hatches are off, there is a dedicated stowage locker for them in one of the sponsons.

“A laminated-glass wraparound windshield provides an unobstructed, distortion-free view with exceptional clarity at all times,” he added.

Maldonado paused for a moment, then continued.

“The Valor 38 Canopy is built around one central idea,” he said. “No compromises.”
