The powerboating community lost another two members this past weekend when their boat crashed Saturday morning on Lake Michigan near East Chicago.

The two victims have been identified as Timothy Dunlap, 62, of Lynwood, and Richard Wade, 68, of Hammond. After the craft hit a break wall at 3 a.m. both men were pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma. There was a third passenger on the craft that crashed that managed to survive by swimming for nearly two hours without a life jacket before being picked up and taken to St. Catherine Hospital.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s office, contributing factors were reduced visibility, speed, and alcohol.
