First Mystic 38′ Cat Exceeds Expectations, Yields More Orders

The first Mystic C-3801, Dirty Duck, is owned by Slug Hefner.

DeLand, FL-based Mystic Powerboats recently delivered its first C-3801 catamaran to Slug Hefner at the 2018 Lake of the Ozarks Poker Run & Shootout, and the response has exceeded all expectations, according to company president John Cosker.
The 38-foot cat got “exceptionally good reception at the Shootout,” Cosker told Powerboat Nation. “We actually sold one at the lake and got a deposit in hand, so we’ve got a total of six of them sold.”
That’s a remarkable achievement for a model that was basically created as a one-off to test the waters. “We tried it to see if the market would like the boat, and it has really warmed up to it,” Cosker says. “So we’re putting it in production now that we’ve got six sold. We’re grateful to Slug Hefner for taking a chance on the model and building the first one with us.”
Hefner’s C-3801, dubbed Dirty Duck, is powered by twin Mercury Racing Verado 400 outboards. With that package, Cosker said the production model should be able to reach speeds approaching 110 mph.
According to Cosker, new models in the builder’s vee-hull line are currently in the planning stages. Meanwhile, look for the C-3801 Cat at February’s Miami International Boat Show.
