Kicker Marine Audio Adds A Knob You Can Live With

Borrowing from comedian Dennis Miller, I don’t want to go on a rant here, but …

If I have to add one more app to my iPhone to control or access anything, I will throw the damn thing in the water—preferably saltwater so it will irreparably harmed. I have nothing against apps per se, and for a man of my vintage I do OK with them. I give myself a B- on a good day, a C+ plus on a bad one.

As recently reported on speedonthewater.com, KICKER Marine Audio has created a new product currently on display at the Miami International Boat Show dubbed the MSLC Marine RGBW Lighting Controller. It is a centralized lighting-control system that eliminates the auditory clutter that comes with today’s RGB/RGBW lighting-system controllers for powerboats.

And rather than being managed through an app on a smart phone, it is controlled by a simple knob. The product was inspired by the Stillwater, Okla., company’s maniacal obsession with clean audio.

Captured here in its Miami International Boat Show demo display, the MSLC Marine RGBW Lighting Controller from KICKER Marine Audio isn’t sexy. It just works.

App-based controls for such systems create a low level buzz at distorts music play below top volume. And for the KICKER folks, that is unacceptable.

“You won’t hear the buzz when the volume is turned way up,” explained Jeremy Vale explained, the product manager for KICKER Marine Audio. “But when you turn the music down, like when you’ve pulled up on a beach and just chilling out on your boat, will hear that buzz coming through the speakers. We wanted to eliminate that.”

OK, there’s nothing sexy—get your minds out of the gutter—about a knob. But it is functional and simple and it works. And that’s the point. With KICKER’ MSLC Marine RGBW Lighting Controller, you don’t have to reach into your and pull out your to phone to access an app.

You simply turn a knob.
