KEY WEST: LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness Wins 2nd Friday Race

Defending World Champion LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness, owned and driven by Brit Lilly and throttled by Kevin Smith, won in Friday's Superboat Vee battle.

If LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness’ Wednesday success was a win of skill, its success on Friday owed just as much to luck.

The defending World Champion, owned and driven by Brit Lilly and throttled by Kevin Smith, chased leader Sunprint Management for most of the race—until Sunprint fell off plane after its big lead and eventually had to be towed in. That gave LSB the lead for the final laps of the race.

Sunprint, a 29’ Extreme, is driven by Steve Fehrmann with Steve Miklos on the sticks. It was not immediately clear what kind of mechanical problem forced them out of the competition.

Much of the race was a battle for third place. It was finally captured by BoatFloater.com, the 29’ Extreme piloted by the father/son team of Steve and Stephen Kildahl of Sarasota, FL.

Fourth place went to Punisher, a 30’ Phantom owned and driven by Charlie McCarthy and throttled by Sean McCarthy. In fifth place was Phantom 32, a 32’ Phantom owned and driven by company owner Will Smith and throttled by Jimmy Deitch.
