Pirates of Lanier was a blast. A little weather couldn’t keep us down and Powerboat Nation was thrilled to be able to again participate and support this incredible event. In the end over 300 registered boats, $430,000.00 raised for the supported charities and a great gathering of like minded powerboaters from around the country.

We could not be more pleased than to be included in this great event and are already looking forward to next year!

I hope you enjoy our short recap video of the weekend. Lots of fun personalities on the docks!

Pirates of Lanier…Goal Shattered: John Woodruff and Nancy set a goal. They said they were going to raise $400K for the charities supported by the Lanier Partners and the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run. Hard work and determination yielded a result that exceeded their goal. The final numbers are not in yet but we can comfortably state that at least $410,00.00 was raised. Auction item totals are still coming and the overwhelming generosity was everywhere. A lighted hula hoop sold for $1200 and simple cash donations are still being tallied. I think there is no doubt this event tops the list to showcase the generosity of our powerboating group.

The other notable was 301 registered boats with many more on the sidelines. Great variety of craft from homemade VW Bus on a raft to big 48 MTI’s and 46 Skaters, with everything else in between.

The rain delay may have been a blessing in disguise. Everyone watched and waiting checking their phones for the Pirates of Lanier APP updates. Hard rain poured in the early hours of Saturday but when it stopped it was cool and fun and sage. A small final downburst hit us just before the bridge but it only lasted for amount two minutes and it was clear running from there on. The PBN Cigarette made all seven card stops and we had a great time running this event.

Back at Sunset cove the party atmosphere took off with many Pirates on the dock to celebrate and watch the event finale fireworks.

A big Congratulations to John, Nancy and the entire team of Lanier Partners who worked so hard to make the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run what it has become today.

Of course the video is coming!

We have talking and planning and now its time to leave for the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run. The entire team at Lanier Partners has been working tirelessly to put together a fantastic event. With a mobile App, Special Treasure hunt and more than 200 boats registered we can be sure the fundraising goal will be accomplished.

The organizers were also able to bring in Paul Sr, of Orange County Choppers for a special meet and greet. Additionally there are other surprises coming. Sworn to secrecy to which I can not reveal but this should be a very exciting time for everyone who makes the trek to Lanier.

At least six boats from South Florida are making the run north and PowerBoatNation.com will be on hand to cover the event live and bring back back to you online!

Here is the list of registered participants and to me the coolest thing is the variety of the boats taking part in this great event!

The Pirates of Lanier Poker Run has raised HUNDREDS of Thousands for youth charities and if the event chair Mr. John Woodruff has his way this year will be yet again another record breaker. July 17-19 a large group of powerboaters will again converge on Lake Lanier and PowerBoatNation will be there to cover and support this incredible event. Not only does it raise massive money for three great organizations it is simply a great boating event.

Recently at the Jacksonville Poker Run we caught up with John and Nancy to talk about the “Pirates of Lanier Poker Run”

A message from Mr John Woodruff

To all our friends,

We at the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run wish you All the Best Wishes for a prosperous 2014.

Our website Lanier Partners of North Georgia is up and ready for registration and our room block is in place at Legacy Lodge at Lake Lanier Islands. The dock reservation system will be coming shortly and we’ll keep you informed. We look forward to seeing you again and making a difference for Georgia’s kids with cancer.

We will have a booth at the Atlanta Boat Show, January 9-12, at the Georgia World Congress Center, so come on down. You’ll be able to sign up and enter a chance at some fun giveaways!

Sent from John Woodruff

You can be sure PowerBoatNation will be back to Lake Lanier to support and PARTICIPATE in this great event.

To just say the Lanier Poker Run was a great event would be a huge understatement. TheLanier Partners who put on this event to support Camp Sunshine and other charities are to be so heartily commended for an incredible job. John Woodruff who many of us know as the owner of the fabulous 48 MTI “WINDSHIP” who presided over the event was a wonderful and accommodating host to everyone. If you weren’t there you missed a number of incredible features including at total of 275 boats at final registration. $280,000 was raised for the partner charities.

Not stopping with the money raised, the Great Venue, Card Stops, the Laser Light Show, Fireworks made the event golden. The variety of boats and wonderful people made it even more special. Special commendations have to be given to organizers for putting on a safe event with a good start procedure as well.

This Powerboating Event is one that I have never done before and don’t intend to miss again. We had non-stop fun at this amazing event and it’s difficult to describe the joy. All three poker run winners, 1st Place Jarrett Garlin with the $5,000 prize, 2nd Place Kenny Armstrong with the $2500 prize, and 3rd Place Mitch Blalock $1000 prize, returned their winning back to the charity. In fact every single poker hand prize ever won at this event has gone back to Camp Sunshine. The atmosphere, support and touch of the event were possibly felt no stronger by anyone than fellow poker runner and MTI owner Kenny Armstrong. Kenny said he was so moved by the work of the charity and what Camp Sunshine does for young cancer patients he had to do more. On Friday night Kenny gave $50,000.00 to the event. This type of generous giving was felt all over and felt hard. The entire event was so much more than fiberglass and iron it was truly a like minded community united for a cause.

Remarkable was the variety of boats. From the exotic 48 MTI’s of John Woodruff and Kenny Armstrong and the 46 Skater of Dan DeSantis to small open runabouts and pontoon boats this event was about Powerboating and raising money for charities. I was completely taken back by the generosity of the community and how friendly and appreciative everyone was.

To say people were nice and welcoming does not come close either. At no other boating event have so many people gone out of their way to come up to us and tell us how thankful they were that we took the time to come to Lake Lanier and how appreciative they all were. The venue at Lake Lanier Islands Resort was equally as impressive. The grounds, the staff, the accommodations, and the attitudes were all superb. On the docks was a blast and a big thanks to our local boating friend John O’Neill for getting us extra slips at the last minute.

We’re getting ready, and we’re not the only ones: Over 180 boats have registered so far for this weekends event and as usual everything from big offshore boats to smaller Bajas, Chapparels and Pontoon Boats have been registered. One of the organizers, John Woodruff voiced his pleasure: “We are so excited about this years’ Pirates of Lanier Poker Run. We have a lot of boats and crews signed up for the event and it is getting better every day.” Last year’s event raised over $100,000 for local childrens charities and this year Poker Run organizers are hoping to bring in over $300,000 to help children in need. A $5,000 purse has been set up for the lucky Captain who gets the best hand.

Live entertainment will be on site and the popular Laser and Fireworks show will occur after the award ceremony. Vendors will be on display at the Sunset Cove parking lot. Three helicopters have been chartered to carry aerial photographers and photographs will be on sale. The Pirates of Lanier Poker Run is famous for it’s encouraged, but not required Pirate themed dress code. The most popular “Long Run” will be in five groups for safety issues due to the number of boats participating. The groups will be organized by classes so boats of similar type run together.

Weather for the event is shaping up to be in the 80’s will a small chance of thunderstorms. Water level on the lake is reported as full as well. We’ll be on the water with the T-shirt cannon on board! See you there!

That’s right! For all of you who think you might have been to or seen a GIANT, HUMONGOUS, ENORMOUS boating event somewhere… Well, if it wasn’t Lake Cumberland then you literally haven’t seen anything. Sure, everywhere claims to be big but if one place wants to throw down the gauntlet, then I’m pretty sure that after The 2016 State Dock Lake Cumberland Poker Run, they are the current champion.

Estimates put the raft up at between 1,100 to 1,200 boats and 7,000 people ON THE WATER! No, not land folks. This is the MEGA boating party at its best. It is the true Mardi Gras of boating as this event has a mixture of numerous events and high points all blended into one event. It encompasses a floating city of over 1,500 house boats and slips at State Dock where everyone who attends gathers, socializes, eats, drinks and eventually sleeps (VERY little).  The house boat village is so much fun, and the uniqueness and cool factor are outrageously over the top. It could be considered an Adult Disneyland. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet and greet so many powerboat enthusiasts!

Everyone stays on the docks and doesn’t leave so the vibe, camaraderie, and party are unmatched anywhere we have ever been. It’s the very best parts of say, Key West, Desert Storm, Pirates of Lanier, and Tickfaw all rolled into one!

Powerboating’s who’s who were on hand and ourselves along with industry leaders Sunsation Powerboats and Performance Boat Center provided the means for what will go down in history now as one of the MUST SEE/MUST ATTEND powerboating parties of the year. How can we say this? Well, we put on the industries’ #1 party in Miami every year and we along with support from our friends here have created a monster powerboat party experience that we are committed to making bigger and better as we go forward!

Lake Cumberland is an experience that can only be understood by attending and if you want to really enjoy it all,  get in line because the wait for a proper houseboat on the dock is as equally as big as the event itself!

At the recent Florida Powerboat Club Tampa Bay Poker Run, club President Stu Jones was proudly showing off his new ride.  A beautiful 33 Ocean Hawk that he bought from BoatsDirect.com.  The 33 Ocean Hawk has been a super solid and reliable boat for years, and fits perfectly into the Sport Twin Class for Poker Runs.  Previously branded as a CIGARETTE in the late 1990s to early 2000’s, the boat has always had a reputation for speed, agility, and great sea keeping in bigger water.  With production now conducted under the BoatsDirect.com umbrella, the new Ocean Hawks bring the very best craftsmanship with quality rigging to an extremely affordable 33 foot boat.

The new Florida Powerboat Club 33 Poker Run edition is rigged with twin 300 Mercury Racing Verados and is being specially equipped to support club duties as a pace boat and extra safety boat when needed and rigged for poker runs.

Stu told us the boat will have an enhanced interior with shore power A/C in the cabin, extra grab rails installed, Ocean LED lights all over it, a light bar, new, large Garmin Displays, and even a special tow rig arrangement for those rare occasions when other boats break down and need a tow to the dock.

This year you can see this brand new boat at runs around the country as Stu, Jackie, and family take off on the FPC Motor Home Tour.  All of the appearances are yet to be determined, but you will definitely see the boat at the Pirates of Lanier Run and then many after.

If you need a new boat to join in on the fun, this may be very best, cost effective option for the Sport Twin Class of Poker Run boats.  With a special equipped price of around $150K, the value option on a brand new boat is going to be hard to beat! Casey from Baton Rouge, Louisiana is Powerboat Nation’s first Boater of the Week! Casey first entered the world of powerboating 8 years ago when he bought a 25′ for his 22nd birthday! Great on fuel, with tremendous speed and comfort, it was an easy decision to make it is own. Since then Casey has upgraded to his 31′ Cigarette Bullet, which he takes all over the place, but he calls the Tickfaw River home. He plans to attend the Miami Boat Show, Texas Out Law Challenge, Pirates of Lanier, LOTO Shootout in 2016, and a few others “time permitting.” In the future, Casey has his sights set on upgrading to a 39 Cigarette TS with 700s.

When asked what his favorite boating experience was, he didn’t disappoint…

“Young and dumb. Went to biloxi Mississippi for run of the dogs poker run. Two buddy’s and myself decided to pick up some girls at the signup party. There about 15 minutes and scored 2 girls. They looked young but at least 18. So I asked and they offered up ID’s. All checked out and was good to go in the morning. Get to the boat ramp and there they wait in street clothes thinking I was bluffing. They changed in the cabin once we got going and it was wide open from then on. Was a great day on the water and they stayed at the after party and kept going till it was time Leave. Now fast forward a few weeks we go back and they come also. Only to find out this time we had been given fake ID’s with real pictures and holograms in them! We had been took and could have been under the jail house for this one.”

The team at Powerboat Nation is happy to have a boater like Casey on board and we look forward to seeing where he takes his passion in the future!
